BBQ Party

昨日は、テニスサークルのBBQパーティ。
久しぶりに楽しい時間を過ごしました。
夕日が綺麗な、Stewart Parkで。
夏は、出会いと別れの季節。
12人でパーティしたけど、うち3人がこの夏でイサカを離れていく。
1人はニューヨーク市で金融関係、1人はワシントンDCでコンサルティング会社、1人はバージニアで大学院。
大学のこと、大学院のこと、大学生のこと、色々と教えてもらって、興味深い。

2次会では、日本とアメリカの違いについて、色々と話し合った。
「こっちの大学生はアルバイトをほとんどしないし、マクドでアルバイトすることなんてあり得ない（笑）」と教えてもらった。
私は、日本の大学の事情について話した。

こっちの大学生は、つくづく、エリートだなあ、と感じる。

日本の大学生、もっと勉強しろよ、と思う。
でも一方で、日本の大学生は、マクドでバイトしたり、コンビニでバイトしたり、ある意味、賃金の低いしんどい仕事がどんなものか、知っている。
（私もアルバイトで得た経験、感じたことが、よい社会勉強になったと感じているし。）
日本の大学生は、アルバイトはそこそこにして欲しいけど、庶民感覚を持つことも大事にして欲しいと、なんとなく思うのであった。

Yesterday evening, we had a BBQ party of the tennis club at the Stewart Park.
We enjoyed eating, drinking, talking, and playing frisbee.

One of the members runs a coffee shop in Ithaca, so he cooks well and told us delicious food in Ithaca.

We were 12 in the group and three of us will leave Ithaca this summer.
One of the group members will start to work at New York City, and another member will be working at Washington DC., and the other member will go to a graduate school at Virginia state.
People come and go in Ithaca.

After the party, we moved to the apartment of one of the members to continue talking and drinking.
It's interesting for me to talk with those who have lived in the US for such a long time.
One of our members has lived in the US since he was 10 years old, and he told us how American school life is.
We talked the differences between Japanese and American lives.
For example, more than 70% of university students in Japan work part-time, but few students in the US do it.
The university tuition is more expensive in the US than in Japan, but many American students can get scholarships.

We talked a lot until midnight.
I enjoyed very much!
